Pelvic Floor Preparation for Pregnancy

At Centre 1 Més, we focus on preparing the pelvic floor for pregnancy using advanced and effective methods, performed by our midwife. This preparation includes perineal massage and, optionally, the use of the EPI-NO device.

What is EPI-NO?

The EPI-NO is a device designed to exercise the pelvic floor muscles. It consists of a silicone balloon and a hand knob with an integrated pressure display (biofeedback). This device not only prepares the pelvic floor for childbirth, but also helps restore muscle tone postpartum.

Clinically Proven Benefits of EPI-NO

  1. Reduced Labor Time: Clinical studies have shown that EPI-NO training can significantly reduce the second stage of labor. In a control group, the average duration was 54 minutes, while in the group using EPI-NO, it was reduced to 29 minutes. (Starnberg Medical) (Epino).
  2. Better APGAR Scores: Babies born to mothers who used the EPI-NO showed higher APGAR scores, indicating better immediate physical condition after birth. (Epino).
  3. Reduced Need for Analgesics: The demand for analgesics during labor decreased by almost two-thirds, from 42% in the control group to 16% in the EPI-NO group. (Starnberg Medical).
  4. Reduced Episiotomy and Perineal Injury Rate: Women who used EPI-NO had a significantly lower rate of episiotomies and perineal injuries. Four times as many women in the EPI-NO group experienced a delivery without any perineal injury compared to the control group (Epino) (Epino).

How EPI-NO Works

EPI-NO training is performed in two main phases:

  1. Pelvic Floor Strengthening Exercises: Begin early in pregnancy and continue after delivery. These exercises help to support the weight of pregnancy and a faster recovery of the pelvic floor after childbirth. (Epino) (Epino).
  2. Perineum Stretching Exercises: Begin around the 36th week of pregnancy. These 20-minute daily exercises help to increase the elasticity of the perineum, simulating the sensation of childbirth and preparing the body for a more natural and less traumatic birth. (Starnberg Medical) (Epino).

Pelvic floor preparation with the EPI-NO at Centre 1 Més offers a number of benefits for both mother and baby, contributing to a shorter and less painful delivery, with better postpartum recovery. This holistic and clinically proven approach is an excellent choice for expectant mothers who want a more positive and healthy birth experience.
